Pope Francis, in his beautiful encyclical “Laudato Si,” calls the faithful to care for our common home. Saint Mary of Vernon’s Care For Our Common Home Ministry aims to develop awareness of Catholic teachings on our responsibility to care for our environment, provide opportunities to be stewards of God’s Creation, support individual and parish-wide efforts to live more sustainably, and to coordinate initiatives to care for the environment.
SMV’s Care For Our Common Home Ministry is a caring group of individuals that shares information and resources, and is working together to care for the earth.
We are currently making efforts with native plants, energy efficiency, recycling...
This Ministry meets every second Monday of the month at 7pm in room 110 of the parish center. We hope to see you there!
Parishioners of all ages are encouraged to join this ministry!

The Encyclical Working Group (EWG) uses Laudato Si’ as their foundational document to engage communities with issues of climate change and natural degradation, especially those affecting the communities of our diocese. We work with Green Teams in parishes to engage in discourse about responding to the climate crisis at a local parish level and pair up with other organizations such as Faith in Place and Catholic universities for collaboration.
