The St. Mary of Vernon chapter of the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s organization serving our parish and the surrounding communities. Charity is the cornerstone of all Knights of Columbus activities.
History
In 1882, a young priest named Michael McGivney saw many cases of widows, with little or no income, struggling to feed theri families struggling to feed their families. With a core of men from his parish, he formed a fraternal benefit organization to provide insurance for the widows of its members, while offeing fellowship among Catholic men.
We are now more than 1.6 million members, in over 12, 000 councils throughout the world. Our members donate more than 55 volunteer hours and over 116 million dollars each year to charitalbe and church causes. One of the best features of our order is the life insurance program that was initiated by Father McGivney. It is very affordable and is rated as one of the best in the world, with the highest ratings from Standard & Poors and A M Best.
