Funeral Lunch Ministry Minimize

When Christians are suffering the loss of a family member, their brothers and sisters are called to comfort those who mourn.

St Mary of Vernon's Funeral Luncheon ministry was formed in order to help those parishioners who are experiencing the death of a family member. To ease the burden of finding a restaurant on short notice to hold a luncheon for those attending the funeral Mass, we offer to the bereaved family, the option of having a luncheon in the Parish Center. Our bereaved families are very appreciative of this ministry.

This is a ministry for those who don't have a lot of time, but want to be involved in ministry at St. Mary of Vernon. Volunteers are needed who can provide side dishes and/or for help serving and cleaning up. Due to time restraints we may have only one day’s notice to prepare. Please understand that this is beyond our control as funerals are always unexpected.

If you would like to become a volunteer or for more information, please call the parish office. We are always in need of volunteers.

Volunteer to Prepare Food Minimize

The parish provide the meats, cheese and breads and rely on the volunteers to donate side dishes and baked goods.

Parishioners who offer to cook or bake are normally called once every couple of months. If we are unable to reach you we will not be able to leave a message but will call the next person on the list of volunteers. If you would like to be called at work please let us know.

If you have offered to prepare food you will be asked to prepare a casserole, side dish, or a dessert that will serve 8-10 people. Suggested foods are:

  1. Potato or pasta salad

  2. Baked beans

  3. Hot pasta dishes (mostacolli, lasagna)
