PREP - Parish Religious Educatiion Program Minimize

PREP is the Parish Religious Education Program at St. Mary of Vernon. It currently has over 570 students enrolled in our K – 8th grade classes. To register a new student who has never attended PREP at St. Mary of Vernon, please come into the PREP Office to register.  You must be a registered member of the parish.

PREP is committed to the faith, worship, and service of our students throughout the year, whether classes are in session or not. We strive to pass on our doctrine and Catholic traditions, build community, and prepare the students for the lives and ministry that their baptism declares. We hope to motivate all students and their families to a life of faithfulness and action.

We ask all St. Mary of Vernon parishioners to keep our students in their prayers as these children continue to deepen their faith and seek God in their lives on their life long journey to Christ!

PREP Registration Minimize

Regular consecutive attendance at our Sunday liturgies and in the PREP classroom is expected for all students.

Walk-in registration for the 2012-13 PREP session will be on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012, from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm held in the Great Hall of the Reverend John P. Finnegan Parish Center. The first day’s registration forms are processed using a lottery system.  It does not matter if you register in the morning or in the evening.   However, on the next day, all registration forms are stamped with a date/time, and processed accordingly.

Sorry, registration forms cannot be mailed, but are available here in the PREP office as they are pre-printed with information we have on file.  They will be available online beginning in March, but must be completed and be brought in to the office.  New student forms are available here in the office as well.

There are several programs to choose from.  Class size is limited to 15 for grades K-6 and to 12 students for grades 7-8.   Please note the specific days and times below and choose what works best for your family’s schedule.

To process your registration, you will need to select two choices as we cannot guarantee your first choice.  In the past, the Sunday and Summer programs have been extremely popular and we try to accommodate as many as possible.  Those who do not get their first choice will be put on a waiting list.

If you have a child (grade 3 & up) with little or no religious education, call the Director of  Religious Education for placement into PREP.

Summer Program

Grades 1-7 meet 2 full weeks:  June 18-22 and June 25-29 from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.  Commitment to all 10 sessions is required!  No early dismissals can be given and we need students to arrive on time.

Items needed for registration:

Our first day of registration is  definitely our busiest.  We ask for your patience and cooperation.  To expedite the registration process, please have the following information ready:

  • Registration form completely filled out (1 per child).

  • Medical information for emergency card.

  • Check or cash. (Visa / MasterCard accepted on first day of registration only.)

  • For new students, a copy of the baptismal record if child was not baptized at SMV and records of previous religious education (if applicable).

No registration form can be processed unless this year’s tuition and other fees have been paid in full.  Also, no 7th grade student will be placed into an 8th grade class unless their “year one” portfolio is completed.

Notification of Enrollment

Notification of your child’s enrollment into a particular program will be sent by email or postcard during the month of March.  Due to the high volume of registrations, we cannot give that information out over the phone.
