What are Small Christian Communities?
St. Mary of Vernon’s Small Christian Communities are informal groups of parishioners who come together to create community, develop spiritually, and grow in the knowledge of the Catholic faith. These groups offer an environment for people to explore our faith and how it relates with the joys, challenges and hopes of our lives.
For the past several years, four Small Christian Communities have been meeting once a month to share their faith and their lives together. We would now like to extend this opportunity to more people in the St. Mary of Vernon Parish Community.
Goals for Small Christian Communities
Recognizing that each stage of an adult’s life brings out new faith insights and questions, Small Christian Communities are places that encourage growth in the knowledge of faith and foster deepening spirituality. Reading materials and group conversations provide opportunities for learning and making connections with life. Facilitators and participants interact with one another as friends who are seeking to know and shape their lives within a growing appreciation of the Catholic Christian story.
The Gatherings
Small Christian Communities generally meet once-per-month for 90 minutes, and once-per-week during the Lenten season. New groups will begin meeting in October on First Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m., Second Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m., and Third Tuesday evenings at 8:00 p.m.Groups are currently reading and discussing Matthew Kelly’s book, Rediscover Catholicism.olic Catechism for Adults.
