Do you need a tax deduction? The Furniture Ministry matches up used serviceable furniture, donated by parishioners, with needy families in our community. We've been at this for over 16 years.
Every Saturday morning from 9 until noon, teams of volunteers pick-up furniture in good condition from donors who call our church during the week. In most cases , the furniture is taken that same day to needy people who are:
- within our parish boundaries
- families referred to use by teeachers in local schools
- families in some further reaches of Lake County who are referred to us by Catholic Charities
- families who have patronized our church's PADS homeless shelter and have finally managed to get their own apartments
- women and children referred by Maristella organization for homeless and/or abused women.
We make deliveries on average to about 7 families per Saturday morning.
No money changes hands. All of our workers are volunteer adults and teens from our own parish, and we never charge anyhing for the furniture we deliver. A generous parishioner has donated two full size trucks to help this ministry.
If you have practical, basic, good condition furniture to donate, and live in Buffalo Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Indian Creek, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mundelein, or Vernon Hills, please call the parish office at 847-362-1005 to make an appointment to have your donation picked up. You will receive a form to use with your income tax itemized deductions.
No large appliances, desks, or water beds please! (We have no warehouse or storage and must limit our pick-ups to items needy people with limited apartment space can use.)
